My Deal with God
Several people have made deals with God in the Bible. Most notably, Jacob’s vow at Bethel (Genesis 28:20-22):
“If God will be with me and will watch over me on this journey I am taking and will give me food to eat and clothes to wear so that I return safely to my father’s household, then the LORD will be my God… and of all that you give me I will give you a tenth.” (Genesis 28:20-22)
Hannah also made a deal with God for a child. (1 Samuel 1:10-11)
So today I will make a vow with God. If God blesses me with an abundance of money, I will double tithe and abstain from sex and cigarettes and I will worship God alone. By abundance of money, I mean over a million dollars. I have made $50,000 a month before. I have sold websites for a great deal of money, one for as high as $230,000. But I have never been a millionaire. I have abstained from sex for the last 18 years, all in order to be obedient to God. God promises to bless those who obey Him and delight in His law. I delight in His law, so I ought to be blessed. If God does not bless me this year, I am free to do as I please and God should have no say whatsoever in it. If He is going to correct me when I do wrong, as He has been doing, then He ought to bless me when I do right. That is only fair. So far, God has been egregiously unfair with me. So here is my notice. If I am not blessed in the next year, then God should abstain from correcting me when I do wrong. That is fair. Bless me or leave me alone.
